It was the world’s first consumer-use Handycam (Sony’s compact video camera) Pro with a 3CCD system that achieved image quality approaching that of professional video cameras. Equipped with a carrying handle, and with dials and switches arranged cylindrically along the lens axis, the Handycam pioneered a new field of video photography.

民生用として世界初の3CCDシステムを搭載し、プロ用ビデオカメラに迫る画質を実現したハンディカム（ソニー製コンパクトビデオカメラ）プロ。キャリングハンドル装備、レンズ軸に沿ってシリンドリカルにダイヤル、スイッチを配置し、新しいビデオ撮影フィールドを開拓した。
